What Is Notarized Translation

A notarized translation is a certified translation that has been signed and stamped by a licensed notary public. The notary verifies the identity of the translator and witnesses their signature — adding an extra layer of legal authenticity.

This is different from a standard certified translation, where only the translator signs a statement of accuracy. Notarization adds a government-recognized seal that some institutions require.

When it's required:

Some courts, government agencies, and international institutions require notarized translations rather than standard certified translations. If you're unsure which you need, we can help you determine the right option for your documents.

When Do You Need Notarized vs. Certified?

Understanding which type of translation you need can save time and ensure acceptance.

Certified Translation

Most common
  • Required by USCIS for all immigration filings
  • Accepted by most universities and schools
  • Standard for visa and passport applications
  • Includes signed Certificate of Accuracy
$20/page

Notarized Translation

Additional legal validity
  • Required by some courts and legal proceedings
  • Required by certain foreign embassies and consulates
  • Sometimes needed for real estate and business filings
  • Includes certification + notary public seal and stamp
$20/page + $15/page for notarization

Not sure which one you need? Most USCIS and immigration submissions only require certified translation. We'll confirm the right option after you upload your document.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about notarized translation

What is the difference between certified and notarized translation?
A certified translation includes a signed statement from the translator attesting to accuracy. A notarized translation adds an additional step — a licensed notary public witnesses the translator's signature and applies their official seal. Notarization provides an extra layer of legal authentication.
Does USCIS require notarized translation?
No. USCIS accepts standard certified translations with a signed Certificate of Accuracy. Notarization is typically required by certain courts, embassies, and legal proceedings — not by USCIS.
How much does notarized translation cost?
The base rate is $20 per page for certified translation. Add +$15 per page for a notarized digital copy, or choose our Official Package at +$29 flat for a printed and notarized hard copy shipped to you.
Can you notarize translations in any language?
Yes. We provide notarized translations from over 100 languages into English.
Do you provide hard copies?
Yes. Digital delivery is standard, but we can mail notarized hard copies upon request for an additional shipping fee.
